Memphis vs Auburn College Basketball Betting Preview
Through almost three weeks of the season, Auburn has arguably been the best team in college basketball. The Tigers defeated Houston in Texas and toppled Iowa State and North Carolina in Maui to post their second and third top-15 wins.
The Tigers are No. 1 in KenPom, above Gonzaga and Kansas, two teams currently playing at the same level as Bruce Pearl's club.
But if Auburn has been the best team in the country, Memphis has been the most impressive.
Historically, Penny Hardaway has vastly underachieved with the Tigers based on the amount of talent he has stacked up year after year; however, this year, the vibes in the program seem to be much different.
Memphis is stacking quality win after quality win, including victories over Missouri, UNLV, San Francisco, UConn and Michigan State. Most impressively, only one of those wins came at home.
The country may not have a better backcourt than the Tigers' combination of PJ Haggerty, Tyrese Hunter and Colby Rogers. Those three can take and make tough shots, they don't get flustered due to their experience and they are athletically gifted.
The trio combined for 49 of Memphis' 71 points against Michigan State and 67 of Memphis' 99 points versus UConn.
Also, Auburn isn't facing North Carolina's frontcourt anymore. The Tigers thrashed the Tar Heels on the glass, taking advantage of a team still adjusting to life without Armando Bacot.
Johni Broome, a National Player of the Year candidate, will still get his, but the frontcourt of Moussa Cisse, Dain Dainja and Nicholas Jourdain will be much better suited to match up successfully.
While there is some concern that Memphis will ultimately wear down due to its lack of depth, that wasn't even close to the case yesterday against Michigan State. The Tigers are playing at such a high level right now and have so much momentum that I doubt that will be the case again.
Even though Auburn is playing out of its mind and has more depth, I can't count out Memphis' guards, especially when it's just to lose by single digits.
