Memphis vs. USF NCAAB Preview

No. 14 Memphis brings a seven-game winning streak into Tampa as it takes on middling USF.

The Tigers are 9-1 in their last 10 games and pegged by ESPN's Joe Lunardi on the five-seed line for the NCAA Tournament.

Meanwhile, USF ranks No. 198 in the NET, so this is a Quad 3 game for Memphis. The Tigers have already dropped two Quad 3 games. Despite second-leading scorer Tyrese Hunter (knee) being a game-time decision, Memphis won't add to that total against USF.

Hunter was replaced by Dante Harris in Memphis' last game, a 90-82 victory vs. Temple. Harris was solid in 29 minutes with 14 points and two steals. Memphis also finished +6 during Harris' time on the court.

Two-way star PJ Haggerty (21.6 points, 2.1 steals) will create issues for USF on both ends. Haggerty finished with 20 points, seven assists, two steals and a block against Temple.

Memphis' offense is too much for USF to overcome. The Bulls sit 199th in the nation in defensive efficiency. The Tigers are 58th nationally in offensive efficiency and first in the AAC in field goal percentage at 48.3%.

The 3-point line will also play a heavy factor in the outcome. Memphis' offense leads the nation in 3-point percentage at 40.3%. USF's defense ranks No. 3 in the AAC in 3-point field goal percentage, giving up a bucket on 31.4% of attempts.

The Tigers will be challenged from beyond the arc but will still convert enough to make the difference.

Jamille Reynolds tallied 18 points in USF's last outing, a 75-70 loss to Wichita State. Memphis, which sits 46th nationally in defensive efficiency, will limit USF's top scorer.

USF dropped its lone matchup against a ranked opponent in a 98-83 season-opening loss at then-No. 21 Florida. Memphis will take care of business in convincing fashion tonight.
