Miami vs Duke College Basketball Betting Preview

It's no surprise that this spread is nearing 25 points.

Miami is arguably the worst power-conference team in the nation, as it's 4-12 after Jim Larranaga stepped down mid-season. The Canes' effort level and body language has been even worse, and it doesn't help that leading scorer Nijel Pack (foot) hasn't played since December 10.

Meanwhile, Duke is the most talented team in the country, led by National Player of the Year candidate Cooper Flagg, who's coming off a 42-point outing against Notre Dame. The Blue Devils aren't a one-man show, though, and their defense is No. 2 in KenPom's efficiency metric.

I'm expecting an all-out beatdown, and we're actually getting value — yes, I said value — with the number sitting at 23.5 (BetMGM). Bart Torvik has this spread at 30 points and Haslametrics has it nearing 28 points.

Miami still has some talent — including Matthew Cleveland, Lynn Kidd and freshman Jalil Bethea — and if there's any game that it'll up its effort levels, it'll be this one against a top-five Blue Devil team on the road.

But it feels wrong to fade Flagg and company, so I'll throw a small chunk of change on the Blue Devils and have some fun.

Pick: Duke -23.5 (Play to -24)
