Miami (OH) vs Michigan College Basketball Betting Preview
Under new head coach Dusty May, Michigan has looked solid, pounding Cleveland State by nearly 50 points before playing Wake Forest close and cruising past Jamie Dixon and TCU.
Tre Donaldson has been the leader for Michigan thus far, as the 6-foot-3 junior has looked like a completely different player at the point guard position.
Donaldson is averaging 13.3 points, but most importantly, he's putting up 4.7 assists to 1.7 turnovers a year after Dug McDonald struggled with 2.4 giveaways per game from the same position.
But for this particular matchup, Michigan's advantage comes in the painted area, where it has 7-foot Danny Wolf and 7-foot-1 Vladislav Goldin. Miami (OH) has a single player who stands above 6-foot-9 — and that's Reece Potter, who doesn't play a role for the RedHawks.
The RedHawks are 246th in rebounding and likely have zero answers for Wolf, specifically. Meanwhile, Michigan is fifth in defensive rebounds allowed per game, indicating it has a real advantage in the painted area beyond just true size.
Also, Miami (OH) lost five of its six top scorers from last season. It does have Xavier transfer Kam Craft (19 PPG) and Eian Elmer looks ready for a leap in his sophomore season, but teams with limited chemistry tend to do worse in November and December than teams with experience and returning talent.
In fact, Miami (OH) is 351st in returning production, according to our expert Collin Wilson, while Michigan is 155th.
Finally, I'm taking the full-game spread and not the first-half spread because the Wolverines are coming off two big non-conference games. I could see them taking a bit of time to get their feet under them.
