Michigan vs Minnesota College Basketball Betting Preview

Michigan has been one of the biggest surprises in the country, let alone in the Big Ten. The Wolverines were picked to finish ninth in the Big Ten Preseason Media Poll thanks to a brand new roster and a first-year head coach in former FAU head man Dusty May.

Instead, the Wolverines have morphed into a Big Ten title contender, sitting at 5-0 in the league and 13-3 overall. It’s not like the Wolverines have beaten up on scrubs, though, as they have three Quad 1 wins and are undefeated on the road.

In fact, their three losses (to Wake Forest, Arkansas and Oklahoma) came by a combined five points.

Their big-on-big pick-and-roll has been impossible for opposing defenses to stop, as Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf have created a devastating one-two punch, with both players standing over 7-foot.

And the offensive explosion doesn’t stop there, with the Wolverines featuring Tre Donaldson, Roddy Gayle Jr. and Nimari Burnett as double-figure scorers.

On the other side, Minnesota is 0-6 in the Big Ten. They’ve been competitive in games against Ohio State and Maryland, but the Gophers have still lost their six league matchups by an average of 13.5 points.

Also, as I mentioned previously, the Wolverines haven’t flinched on the road, beating USC and UCLA by double digits. They also won two neutral games against Virginia Tech and Xavier by double figures at the end of November.

Finally, Minnesota’s strength offensively is grabbing second-chance looks. That’s not a winning formula against the frontcourt of Goldin and Wolf.

It also doesn’t help that the Gophers are one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the country (63.3%).

Michigan has looked unstoppable lately and with no true lookahead game on deck, I expect them to be fully focused in this road affair.
