My Michigan vs Wisconsin College Basketball Betting Preview
The Wolverines had one of the more underrated weeks in the nation during Feast Week, as they won the Fort Myers Tip-Off behind victories over Virginia Tech (by 12) and Xavier (by 25).
What makes those results even more impressive is the fact that the Wolverines have a new head coach — Dusty May from FAU — and lost four of their top five scorers from last season.
Tre Donaldson has morphed into a different player at the point guard position for Michigan, while Ohio State transfer Roddy Gayle Jr. joined returnee Nimari Burnett in the backcourt. The Wolverines also have two 7-footers up front in Yale transfer Danny Wolf and FAU big man Vladislav Goldin.
The early signs for the Wolverines are positive, but now Michigan has to travel on the road to face a Wisconsin team that has been nearly unstoppable.
In fact, this is the best offense the Badgers have had in years. They are 18th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 32nd in points per game.
Putting up 103 points (which the Badgers did against Arizona) would be almost unheard of in previous years.
John Tonje, who averaged 2.6 points per game last year at Missouri, has recorded 22.9 points a night this season, including 41 points against Arizona and 33 points against Pitt.
The Badgers also have veterans up front in Max Klesmit and Steven Crowl and another dynamite scorer in the backcourt in John Blackwell.
Ultimately, until proven otherwise, I don't think I can fade the Badgers' offense — especially in the team's Big Ten opener in Madison.
While I think Michigan is still a very solid team with good pieces that are strong defensively (10th in KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency), I expect it to come back to earth a bit in this game after blowing out Xavier in Florida.
Remember, this is still a new rotation with a new head coach that hasn't played a true road game yet this season.
