FGCU +2.5

By Ky McKeon

Tonight’s ASUN game is at a neutral site at Kennesaw. The market seemed to figure this out this morning when FGCU was bet down from an inexplicable high line of +4 at certain books.

No home court value is a good thing for FGCU, as ASUN home teams have been among the most profitable bets in the country this season. Per KenPom, home teams have won outright just 59.5% of the time in conference play.

Conference tournaments offer a chance to hit the reset button on a disappointing league performance. FGCU tore through its non-conference schedule (won at USC) and looked to be the class of the ASUN heading into January.

Instead, the Eagles faltered and finished just 7-11.

The talent and coaching hasn’t changed. This is still an extremely experienced bunch with all-league caliber talent and a coach in Pat Chambers who knows how to win.

FGCU led Queens by as many as 12 points in their only meeting this season. The Eagles let the Royals off the hook at the end of the game in front of a raucous Queens crowd, but expect them to finish the job tonight.

FGCU should have no trouble scoring on a Queens defense that ranks as one of the worst in the ASUN. The Royals are among the worst pick-and-roll defenses in the country, and that’s the Eagles’ bread and butter.

Experience and talent wins out tonight in Kennesaw, but we’ll happily take the two extra points.

Bellarmine vs. North Florida

North Florida -3

By Matt Cox

An important note on tonight’s opening-round ASUN conference tournament tilt between Bellarmine and North Florida.

Oddly enough, there was initial confusion with the ASUN conference tournament schedule. Depending on what odds board you’re using or where you reference game locations, know that this game will be played at Liberty, a true neutral-site venue.

On the surface, the prevailing situational edge in this matchup is “immediate revenge," as Bellarmine and North Florida just played on Friday in Jacksonville. The home Ospreys caught fire from long distance, fueling a comfortable 12-point win over the Knights.

Prevailing wisdom may lead one to go against that grain in the rematch. The early money seems to agree, as the +4 opening line was quickly bet down to +3.

However, there’s no slam dunk data system which proves blind betting this "immediate revenge" spot is a guaranteed cash cow.

Also, North Florida found itself in the same situation earlier this season against its crosstown rival Jacksonville and squashed the same angle many are betting into today.

Against a feisty Dolphins team, the Ospreys swept JU in a back-to-back series with only one day in between games (covered both games, too).

UNF’s ability to compress Bellarmine’s 3-point weapon gives it a sustainable edge in this rematch, which should override the aforementioned situational immediate revenge angle.

At the cheaper price, take the Ospreys at -3.
