The beauty of Selection Sunday is that, as much as people try, no one really knows who's going to be in, and who's going to be out of the NCAA tournament.
Bracketology has elevated the pageantry of college basketball and March Madness. And now, we can legally bet on whether or not we think a team will make the NCAA tournament.
North Carolina is a team that has ridden the bubble for much of the season. In a down year in the ACC, it appears there aren't going to be as many schools as usual that get into the tournament from the conference.
As of March 1, ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi currently has the Tar Heels as a No. 10 and solidly in the NCAA tournament. That falls along with where the odds currently have UNC as well.
The Achilles' "tar" heel for North Carolina is the lack of significant wins. They are just 1-7 in Quadrant 1 games.
In fairness, the Heels have played a tough schedule. They lost neutral non-conference games against Purdue, Tennessee and Kentucky. Winning one of those games would've pulled them off the bubble.
They are currently -1100 to make the tournament and +550 to miss with one regular season game remaining against Duke.
