My Ohio State vs Purdue NCAAB Betting Preview
After losing three of four in December, there were questions about the future of the Boilermakers.
Were they just an average Big Ten team without Zach Edey? Would turnovers again be their bugaboo in the now 18-team Big Ten?
Well, Matt Painter and Co. turned things around in the New Year, as the Boilermakers have won seven straight games and are currently in sole position of second place in the Big Ten.
The Boilermakers have looked impressive in the process, too, pummeling Northwestern, Rutgers and Nebraska before sweeping a West Coast road trip (Washington, Oregon).
Meanwhile, Ohio State has had a topsy turvy season. A win over Kentucky inspired progress for Jake Diebler’s bunch, but injuries and absences have derailed the train as of late.
(Meechie Johnson Jr. has been away from the team due to personal reasons, Aaron Bradshaw was being investigated for a domestic incident and now Devin Royal is injured.)
Also, the Buckeyes have lost four of five, including a home defeat to Indiana.
While it would seem like Purdue has the upper hand heading into this game (especially at Mackey Arena), I’m actually going to back the Buckeyes.
It’s dangerous proposition to fade Big Ten home teams (especially two in one night); however, I believe 10 points is way too many in this spot.
Ohio State is eighth in the country in potential breakaway points off steals, via Haslametrics, and the Boilermakers have shown in the past that turnovers can be a problem.
If Royal does play, this spread becomes a massive bargain.
If he doesn’t, I still like Ohio State at +10, but I would be more cautious with how many units I would place.
