Oklahoma vs. Florida Preview for Tuesday, February 18

In the non-conference, Oklahoma went undefeated, won the Battle 4 Atlantis and had resume-boosting victories over Arizona, Michigan and Louisville.

But since the SEC season started, the Sooners are third-to-last in the conference standings thanks to two separate four-game losing streaks.

Was Oklahoma overrated? It sure seems like it, but playing in one of the best conferences of all time doesn't help its case either.

Also, Porter Moser's group is relying heavily on freshman Jeremiah Fears, who reclassified from the 2025 class to 2024.

On the flip side, Florida has looked machine-like. The Gators won't have Alex Condon (ankle) and Sam Alexis (undisclosed) for this one, but it hasn't mattered who Todd Golden's team has been missing.

Without Alijah Martin, the Gators went into Auburn and beat the Tigers by nine before traveling to Starkville and beating Mississippi State by double digits.

The Gators are winning SEC home games by an average of 23.2 points, with their lone blemish being a one-point defeat at the hands of Missouri. Even in that game, Florida fell behind by 16 points in the first half before outscoring Missouri by 15 in the second frame.

Based on this write-up so far, you would think I'm leaning toward Florida. But I'm actually going to take the Sooners, and here's why: Desperation is a funny thing in college basketball.

And the Sooners are desperate.

Moser needs something to spark momentum into the Sooners, and this upcoming stretch against Florida, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Missouri will decide the team's NCAA Tournament faith.

The Sooners currently sit on the 10-line in Bracket Matrix and own one of the Last Four Byes in ESPN's current Bracketology, meaning they need to string together some quality wins.

Finally, the Gators have a massive advantage on the glass (third in rebounding compared to Oklahoma's 322nd ranking), but without Condon and Alexis, that gives the Sooners a bit more of a chance to compete in an area that Florida would otherwise dominate.
