Oregon State vs Notre Dame odds have the Fighting Irish laying three points in the Sweet 16. The winner of this one faces a potentially daunting task in the Elite Eight against South Carolina if the Gamecocks beat Indiana.

Oregon State Beavers

Road to the Sweet 16:

  • First Round vs. No. 14 seed Eastern Washington: W 73-51 (Oregon State -19.5 | Under 125.5)
  • Second Round vs. No. 6 seed Nebraska: W 61-51 (Oregon State -7.5 | Under 130.5)

Oregon State handled its business at home in the typical Oregon State manner: slow, efficient offense and forcing its opponent into tough shots.

The Beavers — who hold opponents to 35.5% shooting from the field (seventh best in the country) — held both their first two opponents under 32% from the field and under 23% from 3.

The Athletic’s second-team All-American forward Raegan Beers and Timea Gardiner were dominant inside defensively. Beers and Gardiner both guarded forward Alexis Markowski and held her to her worst shooting performance of the year. Markowski — a first-team All-Big Ten forward who averages 15.7 PPG and shoots 46.7% from the field — went 4-of-17 for eight points against Beers and the Beavers.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Road to the Sweet 16:

  • First Round vs. No. 15 seed Kent State: W 81-67 (Kent State +30 | Over 139.5)
  • Second Round vs. No. 7 seed Ole Miss: W 71-56 (Notre Dame -8.5 | Under 128.5)

Superstar freshman guard Hannah Hidalgo and the Fighting Irish came out firing on the offensive end this past weekend.

Shooting above 50% in both games, the Big 3 of Hidalgo, Sonia Citron and Maddy Westbeld combined for 52 points in the First Round and 56 points in the Second Round.

Unlike the Beavers, the Irish like to push the pace, score in transition and get to the free-throw line consistently. Notre Dame also plays more zone defense than any team left in the tournament, which has been frustrating for opponents that can’t knock down outside shots.

Oregon State vs. Notre Dame

Betting Pick & Prediction

This is such an interesting matchup with two contrasting styles. Notre Dame is above the 80th percentile in pace while the Beavers are below the 20th percentile — but both teams are efficient on the defensive end.

I already gave away the Under here with the focus on two incredible defenses combined with Oregon State’s slow pace. We’ve seen Notre Dame struggle against teams that play slow and keep them off the glass this season — losing at home to North Carolina and NC State.

Both of these teams hold opponents under 11 offensive rebounds per game. Oregon State ranks 14th in the country in opponent Offensive Rebound Rate. The Beavers have also seen a player like Hidalgo in terms of speed in tenacity in Jaylyn Sherrod of Colorado, which Oregon State beat outright as 'dogs three times this season.

Traveling across time zones is never easy for shooting, but defense always travels.

Picks:

  • Under 132.5 (-110) | Down to 130.5 (1.5u)
  • Oregon State +3.5 (-110) | Down to +2.5 (.75u)
