Not many people predicted San Diego State to make it to the Final Four before the season, let alone the National Championship. In fact, SDSU opened at 60-1 to win the National Championship in the preseason.
Even when the bracket came out with a difficult matchup against the College of Charleston in the first round, many thought the Aztecs could be out in the first round.
Yet after upsetting red-hot Alabama in the Sweet Sixteen and then following that up with a close win over Creighton in the Elite Eight, the Aztecs were in the Final Four for the first time in school history on Saturday night.
And thanks to a last-second game winner, San Diego State is on to the 2023 NCAA Tournament National Championship, where the Aztecs will take on the winner of UConn vs Miami.
With No. 5 seed San Diego State now just one win away from a title, let's take a look at how Aztecs' futures have moved throughout key points this season.
San Diego State Odds to Win the NCAA Tournament

After the bracket was revealed, the Aztecs had +1500 odds to make it to the Final Four. The Aztecs were favored in the first two rounds against College of Charleston and Furman.
After that, they started pulling off some incredible upsets. Most notably against Alabama, who many thought was one of the top contenders to win the National Championship. San Diego State was a 7.5-point underdog against Alabama and beat the Crimson Tide outright 71-64.
The Aztecs then followed that up with a 57-56 win over Creighton as 2.5-point underdogs. Now, San Diego State will compete for the national championship after escaping with a 1-point win over Florida Atlantic as 2 or 2.5-point favorites.
