My Texas A&M vs Mississippi State NCAAB Betting Preview
It's just another night in the SEC on Tuesday, as the Bulldogs play host to the Aggies in a pivotal conference matchup.
Texas A&M will be looking to secure another Quad 1 win on the road while remaining within shouting distance of Auburn and Alabama at the top of the SEC standings.
For Mississippi State, it's a chance to get over .500 in the league and continue to help its case for a top-five seed in the NCAA Tournament.
All signs point to this being a back-and-forth affair throughout.
Texas A&M Basketball
The Aggies have won five in a row and were pegged as a two-seed in the early reveal of the top four seed lines by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. Buzz Williams' team is a legitimate Final Four contender and is one of the oldest and most experienced teams in all of college basketball.
Two things make Texas A&M elite: defense and offensive rebounding.
The Aggies rank No. 1 in all of college basketball in offensive rebound percentage, and they absolutely pound the backboards when their shots go up. Attacking the offensive glass has always been a hallmark of Williams' philosophy, but this team takes it to another level.
Texas A&M is also elite on the defensive end, ranking sixth nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency.
Guys like Andersson Garcia, Solomon Washington, Henry Coleman III and Pharrel Payne use their length at the rim to make it extremely difficult for opponents to finish in the paint.
Zhuric Phelps is also a very strong on-ball defender and is typically tasked with guarding the opposing team's best perimeter scorer.
To come away with a road victory on Tuesday night, Texas A&M will need to make some shots from deep, the one area that's held it back at various points.
Mississippi State Basketball
I was really impressed with how the Bulldogs looked in a road victory over rival Ole Miss on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs dominated that game from start to finish and the 10-point margin doesn't represent how one-sided that affair was.
That's the type of result that Chris Jans' team can build off of as it starts to enter the home stretch of the regular season.
Mississippi State has come up short at home to the SEC's elite thus far in the year — losing by five to Kentucky, four to Alabama and 13 to Florida.
Tuesday night gives it an opportunity to finally get over the hump against a top-10 team. Humphrey Coliseum will be rocking, and I expect the Bulldogs to come out with their hair on fire in this one.
Josh Hubbard remains one of the most dynamic guards in all of college basketball, and he should be able to get plenty of looks from deep against an A&M team that will allow you to shoot it from beyond the arc.
KeShawn Murphy and Michael Nwoko will be asked to keep the Aggies' bigs off the offensive glass, which could go a long way toward deciding this one.
Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State Betting Analysis
I'm rolling with the home team as a short favorite in this one. I love the spot for the Bulldogs coming back home, and I think we'll see their best effort right out of the gate.
Mississippi State has the interior size to battle on the backboards with A&M, and its defense should be able to keep Wade Taylor IV at bay.
There's no denying that it's hard to generate significant margin against a well-rounded Aggies team, but I like the Bulldogs to do exactly that and pull away with this one in the second half.
