Texas Tech vs Kansas College Basketball Betting Preview
No. 10 Texas Tech (21-7, 12-5) heads to Kansas (19-9, 10-7) for a late-season Big 12 battle.
Texas Tech wants to bounce back after a home loss to Big 12-leading Houston and improve its seeding for the NCAA Tournament. The Red Raiders are 6-2 at the road and haven't lost consecutive games this season.
Meanwhile, the Jayhawks have responded from being bounced out of the rankings with a pair of victories vs. Oklahoma State and Colorado. The chief goal for Kansas right now is to position itself into a higher seed for the Big 12 Tournament.
Historically, Texas Tech has been dreadful at Allen Fieldhouse, with a 1-22 all-time mark. Kansas is 13-2 at home this season.
Key contributors Darrion Williams and Chance McMillian might be unavailable against the Jayhawks after missing the Houston game. However, JT Toppin and Elijah Hawkins will make sure the Red Raiders don't walk away with another defeat.
Toppin's scoring and rebounding will cause trouble for the Jayhawks. Toppin notched his 12th double-double of the season in the loss to Houston.
Hawkins is the best facilitator in the conference and the steadying presence for an offense that's tops in the Big 12 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.57).
Texas Tech's offense will put Kansas into foul trouble and will make it pay at the line. The Red Raiders are third in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (76.8). Texas Tech has converted 80% of its free throws 12 times this season.
The 3-point line will make a big difference, too.
Texas Tech is also proficient from beyond the arc at No. 3 in the conference in 3-point percentage (37.6). Kansas is second defensively in the Big 12 in 3-point percentage (29.5), but the Red Raiders will convert enough 3-pointers to open the floor for driving lanes.
Hunter Dickinson is a tactician with reading angles offensively, but Texas Tech will do enough to limit him.
The rest of the Red Raiders' rotation will step up to fill the void if Williams and McMillian are out again.
Texas Tech will cover the spread and get the win.
