UNC Wilmington vs Kansas College Basketball Betting Preview
It's obvious there's a massive talent disparity in this game, and it doesn't help that UNC Wilmington has to travel to Allen Fieldhouse.
However, there are a couple of advantages UNC Wilmington has in this game that has forced me to bet the Seahawks on the spread.
First, this is a lookahead spot for Kansas. The Jayhawks have bigger fish to fry, and even though their game against the Blue Devils isn't until next Tuesday, do they really care about beating UNC Wilmington by 20 compared to 30 this week?
Second, the Seahawks have been scoring at will so far this season. Sure, the competition has been Mount Olive (non-D-I), Georgia Southern and USC Upstate, but they're averaging 108 points per game. Their two biggest returnees — Donovan Newby and Noah Ross — are putting up a combined 36.4 points an evening.
Finally, Kansas is still tinkering with lineups and figuring out what works best. For example, AJ Storr, one of Kansas' prized transfers, played 12 minutes against Michigan State and 27 minutes against UNC. Shakeel Moore just came back from an injury, and they are still adjusting to their guard play without Elmarko Jackson (who's done for the season).
I'm not saying Kansas won't win this game, and I'm not even saying it won't dominate. But I think UNC Wilmington covers this large spread while Hunter Dickinson, Dajuan Harris Jr. and KJ Adams Jr. head to the bench during a blowout. It's time to get ready for Duke next week.
