My UNC Wilmington vs Texas Tech NCAAB Betting Preview
The Texas Tech Red Raiders earned a No.3 seed after a tremendous season in the Big 12.
While the Arizona Wildcats bounced them in the conference tournament, that may be a blessing as they'll be rested and ready to take it to the 14-seed UNC Wilmington Seahawks.
Projections for this matchup are very close to market, but after early money got the spread up to 16, we have seen some buyback down to 14.5.
While some feel the Red Raiders won't win this game by 16, I'm fading the late money and am buying back on the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech can pull away in this one, as it's relentless on the offensive end of the floor. The Red Raiders rank sixth in nationally adjusted offensive efficiency, 28th in effective field goal percentage, and can put up points in bunches as they are proficient from beyond the arc.
Perimeter shooting will be the theme of the Red Raiders' victory, as they shoot the lights out, and UNC Wilmington's compact defense allows plenty of perimeter shots.
There will be quite a contrast on the other end of the floor.
The Seahawks have size that they utilize in the paint often, as close-range 2-pointers have made up nearly 35% of their offense.
However, Texas Tech is the best interior defensive team the Seahawks have faced in a while. The Red Raiders rank 68th in 2-point shooting allowed and have the size to hold their own down low.
A comparison to the struggles we may see is how the Seahawks performed against Kansas. The Jayhawks are solid inside, holding the Seahawks to just 41% from inside the arc. The Seahawks lost that game by 22.
I'm not sure when it will come, but look for Texas Tech to go on an extended run and pull away here.
Back them to cover the spread as they advance to the Round of 32.
