My Utah Valley vs North Dakota NCAAB Betting Preview

Betting early-season college basketball games isn't all about returning production, but it certainly plays a heavy role. Teams with more experience do better in the early months, as chemistry and roles are easier to work out when rosters have previously played together.

In the case of this game, Utah Valley ranks 330th in returning production, while North Dakota checks in at 234, according to our expert Collin Wilson.

The Wolverines returned just one starter from a team that finished .500 last season. Meanwhile, the Fighting Hawks have three players who combined to start 68 games in 2023-24.

ND did lose their top two scorers — BJ Omot and Tyree Ihenacho — however, Treysen Eaglestaff and Amar Kuljuhovic are All-Conference candidates.

That isn't to say Utah Valley isn't good. It was picked to finish fifth in the WAC preseason poll, and it obliterated UTEP by 29 points, thanks to lights out 3-point shooting (10-of-19).

Dominick Nelson and the Wolverines' lone returning starter — Tanner Toolson — have combined to average 32.5 points per game across their first two outings.

Regardless, I just think this is way too many points (Bart Torvik has this spread close to -4), especially for a younger, experienced Utah Valley team on the road.

And while this is a quick turnaround for North Dakota — which played on Tuesday against Dickinson State — no one played more than 23 minutes, so the freshness of the lineup shouldn't be in question.
