Wichita State and SMU are historically two basketball powerhouses in the American Athletic Conference.
However, they've struggled to live up to their expectations so far this season.
SMU has had a disappointing season so far. The Mustangs are at 7-12 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Both conference wins were against Tulsa, the worst team in the AAC by both conference metrics and record.
But Wichita State has not been much better. The Shockers are 9-9 overall and also find themselves at 2-4 in the conference.
