William & Mary vs UNC Wilmington College Basketball Betting Preview

William & Mary is due for a loss after winning six straight games, including three road matchups against Hofstra, Stony Brook and Hampton. The Tribe are the only undefeated team remaining in the CAA, despite being picked to finish seventh in the conference's preseason poll.

The Tribe have plenty of experience (three of their top five scorers are seniors and the other two are juniors), but the Seahawks can match that with upperclassmen of their own and have advantages in other areas.

First, UNC Wilmington has a height advantage thanks to the presence of Khamari McGriff (6-foot-9) and Harlan Obioha (7-foot). The Tribe don't have a single player who stands over 6-foot-8, and they also struggle to defend on the interior (298th in defensive near-proximity percentage, via Haslametrics).

That will be a problem, especially with the Seahawks being forces on the offensive glass. UNC Wilmington is 29th in the NCAA in potential points scored off of second chances, via Haslametrics.

Second, the Seahawks do a decent job of defending the area where the Tribe capitalize on the most on the offensive end: beyond the arc. UNC Wilmington is 146th in the country in 3-point percentage allowed while William & Mary relies heavily on the 3 and shoots 37% from beyond the arc.

Not having Elijah Jamison in the lineup hurts, but I still think UNC Wilmington has more than enough to stop William & Mary's streak and cover the spread in the process. Bart Torvik thinks so, too, as it has UNC Wilmington favored by 7.5 points, giving us great value on this spread.
