The Women's NCAA Tournament enters the Sweet 16 with a lot to play for (and bet on), but which school is the favorite to win it all?
According to the market at Kalshi, which operates more like a stock market than a traditional sportsbook, it's nearly a toss up between UConn and South Carolina.
Women's NCAA Tournament Odds
UConn and South Carolina have been trading places as favorites in the Women's NCAA Tournament since February. It was actually the Gamecocks — the No. 1 seed in the Birmingham regional — that started March Madness atop the pack, priced at over 30%.
However, while both teams made easy pickings of their first-round games, South Carolina had a much closer game against Indiana in the second round. It ended the first half down 26-25, but a 26-14 run in the third quarter was South Carolina's saving grace.
As a result, UConn — which trashed South Dakota State 91-57 in its second-round matchup — is now favored to win it all and priced at 36%.
South Carolina isn't far behind at 31%, but the odds get much longer after that, with UCLA, the third favorite, priced at just 12%.
What is Kalshi?
Different than a traditional sportsbook and available in all 50 states, Kalshi allows users to make predictions across several unique markets, including sports, entertainment, elections and even weather.
Kalshi operates on a contract-based system where users buy "contracts" (priced between 1–99 cents) based on whether they believe a specific event will happen. The price of each contract fluctuates in real time based on market sentiment, and like the stock market, traders can sell positions early to lock in profits (or minimize losses).
