Tough news hit Florida State fans Thursday morning as they found out Ta’Niya Latson, the favorite to win National Freshman of the Year, will be missing the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s Alexa Phillippou first reported the news.

More bad injury news: Ta'Niya Latson will miss the NCAA women's basketball tournament due to injury, Florida State has announced. O'Mariah Gordon will also be sidelined.

Florida State Seminoles

The Bulldogs, under first-year coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, made the tournament via an at-large bid. Diamond Battles, a strong two-way player, followed Abrahamson-Henderson from UCF to Georgia and has helped propel the Bulldogs this season. Georgia isn’t a flashy offensive team, but it does rank in the top-10 percentile in Defensive Rating and Opponent points per play, according to HerHoopStats.com.

Georgia Bulldogs

In coach Brooke Wyckoff’s first official season as the head coach of the Lady Seminoles, she found lighting in a bottle with Latson. The star freshman led the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring with 21.3 points per game and was the sixth-highest scoring player in the tournament field. Latson’s 21.3 PPG was the 10th-highest scoring average for a freshman in the past 15 seasons.

Florida State vs. Georgia Betting Pick

Losing a key reserve who averages nearly seven PPG in O’Mariah Gordon is tough, but losing one of the best players in the country, a player who handles 25% of the Seminoles’ scoring is almost insurmountable against a tough Georgia defense.

In the Seminoles’ ACC Tournament game against a much weaker Wake Forest team, Florida State outscored by 29 points in the second half and lost by 11 as an 8.5-point favorite. This line opened with Florida State as a 1.5-point favorite.

Our HerHoopStats.com model predicts a 69-68 win for the Seminoles, but Latson is sure to account for at least five points of value in my eyes.

Pick: Georgia -1 (Play to -4) | Under 134.5 (Play to 132.5)
