Win totals are one of the most popular NFL bets, and the public loves betting the over. In fact, 27 teams (84.3%) this year currently have more tickets backing the over as well as 22 (68.8%) with most of the money on it.
That’s not necessarily a recipe for success. After all, 18 teams went under their projected total compared last season compared to 14 in which the over cashed. Meanwhile, for what its worth, teams needing double-digit wins to hit the over went 6-7 while those with low totals of 6.5 were more profitable, going 5-2.
Things haven't been going great for teams with double-digit win totals. Already, the Cowboys, Ravens and Bengals have all faltered and may not come close to reaching their marks. The Lions and Eagles are also in danger.

If there were a clear blueprint for betting anything, including NFL win totals, we'd all be retired on a beach somewhere.
But generally, unders are going to be better bets than overs, per research from our Evan Abrams.
- In 2021, if you added up every preseason win total, the total wins in the market equaled 277 wins — the league itself had 272 regular season games. Between 2018 and 2020, with a 16-game schedule, the average total wins in the preseason market was 260.8 (with it being its highest in 2020 at 262.5) — the sport itself had 256 regular season games
- For reference, since the 277 figure in 2021, we've seen 272.5 in 2022, 273 in 2023 and 273 this season — which is much more in line with the total wins for the season.
There have been some poor trends for teams with double-digit win totals. Since 1990, only 40% (79 of the 195 teams) with double-digit win totals have exceeded their number. The most alarming aspect of that 42.7% is the fact that those teams have gone under their win total by .63 wins.
