After an offseason that saw Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling leave Green Bay, the big question for the Packers was: "Who would Aaron Rodgers throw to?"
Yes, the Pack are going to lean heavily on their powerhouse running-back duo of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. However, with a mixture of unproven rookies (Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson) and past-their-prime veterans (Randall Cobb, Sammy Watkins) at wide receiver, Robert Tonyan figures to play a prominent role in their passing attack.
Coming off an ACL tear that cost him the second half of his 2021 campaign, Tonyan returned to action last week with 36 yards on three catches (five targets). While he only ran a route on 19 of Aaron Rodgers’ 38 dropbacks, I expect that to increase this week.
The big tight end has developed a strong rapport with his MVP signal-caller.
Since 2020, Tonyan has averaged 8.9 yards per target. In fact, Tonyan has eclipsed this line in 13 of 18 games in which he saw at least three targets.
After an abysmal offensive performance last week, I expect Rodgers and the Packers to come out firing against one his favorite teams to play against. Chicago will be laser focused on stopping Green Bay's rushing attack, which should open up some softer coverages for Tonyan.
Rodgers’ passing attempts prop sits at 33.5. I’m projecting Tonyan sees five targets, which should put his receiving yards in the mid-30s.
This is playable up to over 26.5 receiving yards.
