To kick off NFL Wild Card Weekend, we’re treated to a fun matchup between the resilient Cleveland Browns and upstart Houston Texans.
I’m going with the two-leg same game parlay route for this game – let’s dive in.
Here's my Browns vs. Texans parlay for Wild Card Weekend.
Dalton Schultz 4+ Receptions
With rookie standout Tank Dell lost for the season with an injury, it’s Schultz who stands second in both targets and receptions for the Texans.
The tight end has cleared this line in eight of his 14 full games played this season, including a resounding eight-catch performance against the Browns in Week 16 (albeit without quarterback CJ Stroud). And even with this being a tougher matchup for his position on paper, there is room for optimism around Schultz’s upside today.
The Browns will be without standout safety Grant Delpit, who has been out since Week 15 with an injury. The Browns, who do rank second in FTN Fantasy’s DVOA against tight ends, have regressed against the position in that span. Not only does that include Schultz’s performance, but both Cole Kmet and Tyler Conklin hauled in five catches against Cleveland in the last few games.
Behind breakout receiver Nico Collins, Schultz has proved to be a reliable target in the passing game, especially in key situations. I have him projected with seven targets today.
David Njoku 40+ Rec Yards
Moving to the Browns, but staying with tight ends, I love Njoku in this matchup. The man they call “Chief” has cleared this line in seven of his last eight games, and he has established a great rapport with quarterback Joe Flacco.
The Texans really struggled against tight ends this season, allowing the fifth-most receiving yards per game to the position group. In their earlier matchup against the Browns, Njoku managed to clear this line, despite Browns receiver Amari Cooper’s career day, tallying 265 receiving yards.
The Texans will focus on containing Cooper in this one, which should continue to open up space for Njoku over the middle of the field.
I have the seventh-year pro projected closer to 55 receiving yards today.
