If you’ve been following my NFL bets over the last few seasons, you’ve undoubtedly noticed I’m a fan of betting overs on quarterback rushing attempt props.
Because a quarterback can accrue a rushing attempt off both a scripted run or pass play, game flow is less correlated to this prop than it would be for skill position occurrences (i.e. running back rush attempts or wide receiver receptions could both go by the wayside depending on the score/situation).
For tonight’s matchup, I see some sneaky value with Daniel Jones looking to use his legs against the Cowboys defense.
From a designed rush perspective, I do expect Jones to keep the ball on run-pass option plays a few times in this game. Last week, Lamar Jackson had the Cowboys' defensive line on skates, with nine designed runs for 75 rushing yards (kneels excluded).
While Jones is not Jackson by any stretch of the imagination, the blue print of using the RPO is to neutralize the pass rush as well as opening up running lanes for the Giants running backs.
Coming off an ACL injury, Jones has had 10 designed rush attempts in three games thus far (per Pro Football Focus), not including two solid gains that were called back by penalties last week against the Browns.
And then of course, we should see Danny Dimes having to use his legs on his designed dropbacks. The Cowboys are getting pressure on the quarterback at the league’s highest rate, per Pro Football Reference. While the Giants' offensive line has been slowly improving, Micah Parsons and company have a strong advantage.
I have Jones projected to run the ball at least seven times tonight, so I’m loving this bet at plus or short odds.
