This season, the under for a player's longest reception has been one of my favorite NFL props to target. Typically when I sift through these lines, I stay away from star pass-catchers.
Mark Andrews, one of the elite tight ends, doesn’t fit that mold. But, I’m still liking the under on his longest reception for tonight’s Sunday Night Football matchup.
Andrews has gone under this line in half of his games (7-for-14). That includes two of the three games started by Tyler Huntley. The backup quarterback is not a proficient deep-ball thrower, completing just 7-of-29 passes that have traveled at least 20 air yards dating back to last season (data per Pro Football Focus).
With a lackluster group of wide receivers around him, opposing defenses have been able to key in on Andrews in the passing game. He is only averaging 3.6 yards after the catch, which is down from 4.5 last season.
The Steelers play tight ends well, as they rank seventh in Football Outsiders' DVOA metric against the position, as well as sixth against the deep ball.
With J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards both healthy, and Huntley also a threat on the ground, I expect Baltimore to lean on its run game. In Week 14, we saw the Ravens rush the ball for 215 yards against the Steelers.
I like Pittsburgh to keep Andrews in check. I would play this line down to under 18.5 yards.
