Tyler Conklin Player Prop Prediction for Jets vs 49ers on MNF
The Case to Fade Conklin on Monday Night Football
In Aaron Rodgers' (second) first game with the Jets, the passing game should look a lot different than the dysfunction of the last few seasons.
While I’m expecting upticks in production for most — if not all — of the Jets' pass-catchers over the course of the season, this Monday Night Football game to cap NFL Week 1 is a really tough spot for tight end Tyler Conklin.
The Jets tight end will be facing a 49ers defense that ranked fourth in FTN's Fantasy DVOA metric against the position last season. They allowed nine yards per reception to tight ends, which was the sixth-lowest mark in the NFL.
Dre Greenlaw being out for the season is a blow to the 49ers defense up the middle, but the likes of Fred Warner and Ji'Ayir Brown are excellent in coverage.
Overall, the 49ers defense is predicated with keeping the ball in front of them — they allowed the fifth-lowest aDOT (7.2 yards) last season. Conklin is not much of a YAC threat either, and he won’t have a speed advantage against the athletes on the 49ers.
And I wouldn’t be shocked if the Jets used Conklin to chip block off the line, with the ultimate goal of keeping Rodgers upright as much as possible.
I have Conklin’s longest reception projected at 12 yards for Monday Night Football.
