- Matthew Stafford Over 33.5 Pass Attempts (-128, FanDuel)
With the Rams and Vikings squaring off on Thursday Night Football, I’m keying in on Matthew Stafford’s pass attempts line as my favorite player prop of the game.
The hit rate on this line isn’t in our favor, as Stafford has only thrown 34+ passes in two of his six games this season. However, this matchup should lend to significantly more passing for the Rams.
The Vikings are allowing a league-high 42.3 pass attempts per game this season. Five of their six opponents have cleared this line (which includes the Texans team total, as Davis Mills replaced CJ Stroud late).
Minnesota’s defense has been lethal, ranking first in DVOA both against the run and the pass (per FTN Fantasy). And this season, their high-powered offense has put tremendous pressure on opposing teams: 93% of the Vikings opponents' plays this season have come when trailing (per Roto Viz).
As is, the Rams have the seventh-highest pass play percentage in neutral game scripts this season (per Roto Viz). Wide receiver Cooper Kupp will be back in action, which should serve as a massive boost to the passing game that has been without both him and Puka Nucua the last few weeks.
And while I did consider the pass completion line for Stafford, I ultimately went with attempts because of one thing: pressure. The Vikings bring it at the league’s highest rate, and Stafford has struggled against it, with a 45% completion rate. Also, left tackle Joe Noteboom will once again miss this game with an injury.
Tonight, I have Stafford projected to throw the ball 36 times, and would play this line up to over 34.5.
