If I told you before the season that the Week 8 game between the Giants and Seahawks would be the only matchup between two teams above .500, would you have believed me?
Well, it’s exactly what we’re looking at today, and I’m honing in on the receptions prop of a Giants rookie receiver.
After battling injuries to start his NFL career, Wan’Dale Robinson has emerged as the Giants' primary wide receiver. Last week, he ran a career-high 29 pass routes and hauled in six of his eight targets.
Operating primarily out of the slot, Robinson’s average depth of target (aDOT) of 4.6 yards is the lowest among the Giants' receiver corps. With fellow rookie Daniel Bellinger ruled out, I expect Robinson to serve as Daniel Jones’ primary target on several quick-hitters.
The Seahawks' pass defense ranks 19th in DVOA, per Football Outsiders, and 23rd against short passes. Seattle employs a rookie of its own, Coby Bryant, as its slot cornerback. Bryant has allowed the 11th most catches out of the slot thus far this season (18).
The weather forecast in Seattle was shaky coming into the game, but the worst of the rain seems to be holding off until afterwards. Even with some unfavorable conditions, I expect the Giants to keep Robinson involved. I have the rookie projected at six catches.
