NHL POD (38-30-3) Matchup featuring two very solid defensive teams at 5-on-5. The Stars rank 9th in GA/60 (2.14) at 5-on-5 because they’ve gotten outstanding goaltending from Jake Oettinger. The Canucks rank 4th in xGA/60 (2.23) at 5-on-5 because they’re very physical and have a very deep D core led by Hughes and Hronek. However they’ve had inconsistent goaltending. VAN has won three straight, but over their last two games they have the same number of even strength goals as powerplay goals (3). Unfortunately for VAN they have to go up against DALs top 3 penalty kill unit tonight, so they won’t be able to reliable on a number of powerplay goals. On top of that, they get Jake Oettinger in his home barn. He currently holds a .917 SV% and 2.12 GAA at American Airlines Center this season. Plus, Oettinger has faced VGK in back-to-back starts who is a huge step up in offensive competition compared to VAN. This should be a much easier game for Oettinger. One thing that worries me is DALs offense going off, but have to remember that when healthy VAN is a very solid defensive team at 5-on-5. Canucks just need to stay out of the box.
