The 4 Nations Face-Off Final between USA and Canada is tonight at 8 p.m. ET at TD Garden in Boston. It will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+ and Disney+.

After a heated battle on Saturday, Team USA squares off against Canada for the 4 Nations Championship. Canada started the scoring with a goal from Connor McDavid, but after that, USA’s Connor Hellebuyck made key saves to help his team secure a 3-1 victory.

Check out my pick and prediction for Canada vs. USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off Final.

  • Canada vs. USA puck line: Canada +1.5, USA -1.5
  • Canada vs. USA over/under: 5.5
  • Canada vs. USA moneyline: Canada ML -110, USA ML -110

Canada Looking for Revenge in Rematch

Canada’s inability to properly close games is very concerning.

After holding a 4-0 lead against Finland and forcing the Finns to change goaltenders, they ended up allowing three goals in the final seven minutes of play. Eventually, Canada got a stroke of luck by making a quality defensive play to heave the puck into an empty net from center ice.

The scoreboard may say otherwise, but the eye test raised real red flags, and it was nearly a flashback to the Sweden game that opened the tournament.

Not only that, there’s hardly any offense generation. Canada barely attacked Finland’s net to create high-danger chances, while Finland hammered the crease.

McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon can only do so much to keep this team afloat. Canada has received great play from Mark Stone and Sam Reinhart, but aside from that, there hasn’t been much to write home about.

I’ve been critical of goalie Jordan Binnington all tournament, yet Jon Cooper continues to roll with him. He played exceptionally on Monday for 50 minutes, then he became vulnerable.

It’s continued to be a trend all tournament. If Binnington gets pushed to the limits, the holes in his game become wider, and he plays a more erratic style, which often doesn’t bode well for him.

While Adin Hill isn’t a mountain mover himself, he’s always remained even-keeled. He has a cool and calming presence about him when he’s in the net, which could end up helping the boys in front of him.

USA Hoping to Set Off Fireworks

After the championship game was set in stone, USA took its foot off the gas pedal by resting several key players.

That included Hellebuyck, who enjoyed a break from the press box, while Jake Oettinger came in relief and ate the 2-1 loss to Sweden. Now with the title game approaching, expect to see the two-time Vezina winner back in the crease.

Captain Auston Matthews rested after dealing with a nagging injury, but coach Mike Sullivan expects him to suit up for Thursday.

However, Team USA will be without defenseman Charlie McAvoy, who was sent to the hospital due to an infection. His status beyond Thursday is unknown, but his physicality – which played a key role in the first match against Canada – will be missed in the Championship.

That puts the Americans in a tough position. They called up Quinn Hughes, but since he’s only an emergency call-up, another injury to USA’s defense is needed for him to play. In that case, Jake Sanderson assumes the replacement role.

Regardless, I’m expecting more fireworks tonight. On Saturday, the line of Brady Tkachuk, J.T. Miller and Matthew Tkachuk set the tone with three fights in the first nine seconds of the game against Canada.

We probably won’t see those kinds of fireworks given the high stakes, but I’d still expect a barn burner filled.

Canada vs. USA Prediction, Pick

The last time I bet on these teams, I picked USA to win outright – and I’m doing it again.

As I stated at the beginning of this tournament, I don’t see a real weakness in Team USA. They have the perfect blend of dynamic skill, structured and sound defensemen, and elite goaltending.

For Canada, you have to wonder about a few things. This program completely dropped the ball when it came to assembling a roster that could compete with the Americans. Instead, opting for “meat and potatoes” has significantly hindered this team’s potential in winning the Championship.

I see why the books have listed this game as even. It may end up being a tie game for the most part, or even end up in overtime. But USA is that much better in all three facets of the game.

Back the stars and stripes as the Americans keep the trophy home.

Pick: USA Moneyline (-110)
