Washington Capitals vs. San Jose Sharks NHL Preview
Washington has been superb on the road this year with a 22-8-2 record. The Caps have been as balanced as can be away from home, consistently scoring goals and playing solid on the back end. Washington has scored 3.59 goals per game on the road while converting 23.1% of their power plays.
The Caps have scored 35 goals over their last 10 games, and today figures to be another game where they could go off. San Jose has one of the weakest defensive units in the NHL allowing a whopping 3.67 goals per game.
The blue line have allowed a ton of pucks to get through at an average of 31.6 shots on goal per game, and they haven't killed penalties either. The Sharks have only killed off 73.8% of penalties, and that number in the last 10 games has been abysmal at 65.7%.
Mackenzie Blackwood hasn't been good in goal for the Sharks with a 6-9-3 record and a 3.00 GAA, while Alex Georgiev has really struggled. Georgiev has a dismal 13-22-1 record and .876 save percentage with a 3.75 GAA with the Sharks.
The Caps haven't had said goalie troubles and it will be Logan Thompson getting another start today. Thompson has been the best road goalie in the NHL this year with a 12-1 record and .930 save percentage. Thompson's numbers across this season as a whole are ridiculous at 28-4-5 with a 2.36 GAA.
The Capitals defensemen have limited quality scoring chances for opponents all year long at 2.47 goals per game. The 27.2 shots on goal the Caps have allowed per game this year are one of the best marks in the league.
Best Bet: Capitals -1.5 (+108)
