Capitals vs. Ducks
By Ryan Sura
This matchup features two of the best goalies of the season going head-to-head: Logan Thompson vs Lukas Dostal.
Other than Connor Hellbuyck, no goalie has more goals saved above expected at even strength than Thompson and Dostal.
Thompson has 25 goals saved above expected this season while Dostal has 22. Both have save percentages above .920 at even strength this season.
The Ducks have been scoring above average in March, but face a much tougher opponent in Washington than their last three of the Islanders, Blues, and Canucks. Anaheim has an even strength shooting rate of 15% in the month of March, which is second-best in the league.
I expect offensive regression from Anaheim against Thompson and a physical Washington defensive unit.
It's hard to have confidence in ANA's defense, but they have held three of their last four opponents to fewer than three goals. Dostal can take credit for a bulk of those performances.
Lastly, the Ducks have the second best under record at home (19-11-1) and the Capitals have the seventh best under record on the road (15-12-3).
Pick: Under 6.5
Predators vs. Sharks
We got a lovely matchup between two of the worst defenses in hockey today, with struggling goaltenders — to say the the least — expected to start.
These two teams have played twice already this year, the first game a 7-5 win for the Predators and the second game a 6-5 win for the Predators.
Both Nashville and San Jose rank bottom 10 for goals against in their last 10 games, both of them rank first (SJS) and sixth (NSH) worst in team defense on the year.
I'll take the bump potential at 6 on MGM, which is a lovely price in the event we get a 4-2 or 5-1 scoreline here.
