If you’re a baseball fan, you might have heard of Clayton Kershaw. Nine-time All-Star. Three-time Cy Young winner and one-time MVP. He is one of the best pitchers of our generation. Even though he’s on the back-half of his illustrious career, Kershaw still has strong strikeout numbers.
With 69 punch-outs in 63.2 innings thus far this season, the southpaw has hit the over on this prop in six of his 11 starts. In his past two starts, he’s notched 18 Ks in just 14.2 innings. And most notably, he threw 98 and 102 pitches in those outings, his highest totals of the season.
With his back injury seemingly in the rearview mirror, I love this spot for Kershaw. The Angels have been striking out in bunches as of late, with a 26.6% K% against left-handed pitching over the last month. On the season, their 28.8% called + swinging strike percentage is the second-highest in baseball.
It’s a plus matchup for Kershaw, who owns a CSW% in the top 12th percentile this season. And his 11th-highest chase rate should bode well against an Angels team that whiffs at the fourth-highest rate at pitches outside the strike zone.
I have the 15-year veteran projected at eight strikeouts tonight.
