Spencer Strider Strikeouts
Prop | S. Strider – Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-102) |
Matchup | Rockies vs. Braves |
Time | 7:20 p.m. ET |
Best Book | Caesars |
It’s not often we see a reliever successfully transition into a starting pitcher midseason, but that’s exactly what Spencer Strider has accomplished for the Braves. After posting a 2.22 ERA (2.71 xFIP) in 24.1 relief innings, Strider has pitched to a 3.06 ERA (2.49 xFIP) across his 16 starts.
And perhaps even more incredulously, the flamethrower has maintained his prolific strikeout rate, no matter the role. His 36.1% K% is second only to Jacob deGrom among starters who’ve thrown at least 30 innings. Strider has eclipsed this line in six of his eight home starts (pitching to a 2.05 ERA).
The Braves righty’s slider is one of the best pitches in baseball. He’s struck out a ridiculous 52 batters in 103 plate appearances ending with the pitch, and it’s drawn whiffs 52% of the time. Complemented with a four-seam fastball that averages 98 mph – facing Strider doesn’t seem like it’d be much fun for MLB hitters.
The Rockies have been susceptible to these power pitchers away from Coors Field of late. DeGrom, Max Scherzer and Brandon Woodruff – three of the league’s premier strikeout artists – have all rung up at least eight strikeouts in stellar outings versus the Rockies over the past few weeks. With six right-handed hitters projected to start, they will be playing right into Strider’s better split (42% K% against righties).
Strider has been a strikeout prop darling all season, and I expect that to continue tonight. I have the Clemson product projected at 10 Ks.
I have his "over 7.5 strikeouts" prop playable to -130.
