After pitching for parts of six seasons in Oakland, Sean Manaea came to San Diego in a late preseason trade and has served as a stabilizing force atop the Padres' rotation. His 3.87 ERA is right on his career average, and he’s registered 82 strikeouts in 79 innings.
The big left-hander has punched out at least six hitters in eight of his 13 starts this season. And his 13% swinging strike rate is the highest of his career (19th highest among 119 pitchers with at least 50 innings).
Manaea’s whiff-inducing arsenal should play well against Arizona, complementing the Diamondbacks' third-highest called strike rate. Plus, the Diamondbacks’ roster construction likely means that Manaea will face 3-4 left-handed hitters tonight, which will give the hurler a considerable advantage.
Overall, Manaea has struck-out 13 D'backs in 13 innings this season, and I like him to continue racking up the K’s tonight.
