In his 10th year in the majors, Kyle Gibson has had plenty of ebbs and flows throughout his career. Coming over in a trade-deadline deal last season from the Rangers, the right-hander compiled 61 strikeouts in his 69 innings in Philadelphia. In his first start this season, he struck out a whopping 10 Oakland A’s.

Gibson spoke about some new tweaks to his pitching arsenal during spring training. He’s throwing his cutter to both sides of the plate now, and looking to increase his changeup usage. Besides his strong first start, his 14 strikeouts in 13 2/3 spring innings seem to be indicative of his improved repertoire.

Tonight, he’ll be squaring off against the Marlins, who in 2021 struck out at the second-highest rate in the league. This season, they seem to be trending towards similar results, with the seventh-highest K-rate over the first week.

Gibson is a workhorse, having already reached 82 pitches and seven innings in his first start. Since that game, Joe Girardi has had to employ his bullpen for at least five innings in four straight days. Gibson should have a nice long leash tonight — I have him at 6 strikeouts.

Pick: Kyle Gibson Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-145) | Also playable: Up to -160; or Over 5.5 Strikeouts at 0.75u.
