After posting some subpar surface stats last season, Yu Darvish has settled in nicely for his second campaign as a Padre. Pitching to a 3.40 ERA, he’s been reliable for a San Diego Padres squad looking to position themselves for the playoffs.
He’s been stellar at home, with a 2.17 ERA and 26% K%. And overall, he’s really ramped up his strikeouts of late. Not only has he hit this in 7/L9, but his 31% K% over that span ranks eighth of 72 qualifying pitchers.
I like the matchup with the post-Soto era Nationals. In the two weeks since Washington Nationals jettisoned their young star and Josh Bell to the Padres, their K% has crept up to league average (22.6%). Darvish rang up nine Nationals in his last start in Washington, and I love him to continue his strong run tonight on his home mound.
I have Darvish projected at around 7.5 strikeouts tonight, making the over on his line of 6.5 my top play of the day.
