After a throttling at the hands of the Miami Heat on Sunday, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a quick turnaround on Monday when they take on the lowly Charlotte Hornets.
I’m expecting a bounce-back game for the Cavs in general, but especially from Jarrett Allen.
The standout center is averaging 17.9 points and 10.9 rebounds in the 18 games since the All-Star break. And in the 21 games without Donovan Mitchell in the lineup, Allen has registered 17.7 points and 11.4 rebounds.
As of writing, Evan Mobley’s status has not been determined. The Cleveland forward returned last night after a nine-game absence due to an ankle sprain. If he does suit up tonight, I’d expect him to remain limited after playing only 21 minutes against the Heat.
Either way, I love this spot for Allen.
The Hornets defense has been dreadful against centers for the past few seasons. This year, Charlotte is allowing the fourth-most points and second-most rebounds to the position.
Allen hasn't faced the Hornets this season but has traditionally dominated this matchup, averaging 22.8 points and 15.3 rebounds in his last four full games against Charlotte.
The double-digit spread could be a concern in terms of a potential blowout. But after Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff pulled his starters at the eight-minute mark in the third quarter last night, I anticipate Cleveland riding their starters tonight.
I have Allen projected around 19 points and 12 rebounds. While I’d play the combined points and rebounds line at over 29.5, this mini-SGP is my preferred way to bet on Allen tonight.
