The plucky Washington Wizards are off to a 2-1 start this season, thanks in part to the return of their three-time All-Star, Bradley Beal.
After missing more than half of last season, Beal has resumed his role as the alpha in the Wizards' offense, averaging 23 points and 6.3 assists thus far. Besides leading his team in both of those categories, the 11-year veteran also ranks first on the Wizards in usage (24%), drives (14.7 per game) and potential assists (11.3 per game).
As a three-level scorer, he’s set up for a stat-stuffing night against the Pistons. Detroit has struggled to contain ball-dominant guards thus far this season. Tyrese Halliburton (34 points + assists), Jalen Brunson and Immanuel Quickley (a combined 50 in 55 minutes), and Jalen Suggs (24) all have exceeded their combined points and assists line against the Pistons.
Where the Pistons have struggled defensively is around the basket, allowing the second-most field goals per game in the paint, on the eighth-highest field goal percentage. While the likes of Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey represent a bright future for the Pistons, they’ve struggled containing their defensive assignments thus far.
I see this as a statement game for the Wizards leader tonight. I have Beal’s combined points and assists projected in the low 30s.
Pick: Bradley Beal Over 28.5 Points + Assists (-120) | Playable to 29.5.
