In a season riddled with injuries, Jackson has been one of the very few steadying presences for the Clippers this season. The point guard averaged 21.6 P+A across 75 games this season. That being said, he was anything but efficient.
Jackson is best when he can get to the basket. He shot just 35% on jump shots this season, including 32% from behind the arc. The Pelicans' big front line protects the rim well, allowing the third-lowest frequency of made shots within 10 feet. Across Jackson’s 21 games against the top 10 teams in this category, he only averaged 14.8 points on 35% shooting (25% from deep).
And in terms of playmaking, Jackson averaged 5.3 assists without Paul George in the lineup this season — George has been ruled out due to health and safety protocols. The Pelicans' half-court defense has been stout, especially over the second half of the season and I don’t see this as a big playmaking game for Jackson either.
Even with a projected 40-plus minutes, this game sets up better offensively for Norman Powell, Marcus Morris, and the Clippers' better perimeter shooters. After shooting a grotesque 15-for-55 in his four matchups against the Pelicans in the regular season, I expect Jackson to take a backseat tonight.
I have the point guard projected at 23 P+A and this is playable down to 26.5.
