With one of the youngest rosters in the league, the goal for the Magic this season was to identify which players would be essential to their future. In the frontcourt, it’s Carter who has emerged as a key cog.
The Duke product has really picked up his production as the season has progressed. Over his last 33 games when playing at least 24 minutes, Carter has averaged 27.2 points and rebounds, with a 64% success rate on this line. And over the last 19 games, those numbers pick up to 28.4 P+R and a 68% success rate.
In Minnesota, the Magic will face an opponent that plays fast (second in team pace) and allows the fourth-most rebounds in the league. Even if Carter does draw Jarred Vanderbilt defensively (he’s questionable with a quad injury), the Magic big man would have a massive size advantage. Carter should have no issues scoring down low, and on the boards.
With the season winding down, we’ve seen the Magic more likely to stick with their young starters late into the fourth quarter, regardless of the score. The added security to Carter’s minutes floor allows me to make this bet with confidence. I have the fourth-year pro projected at 28 points and rebounds.
Pick: Wendell Carter over 25.5 points and rebounds (-106 at FanDuel). Playable to 26.5.
