Of course, Blalock has been very decent, having pitched to an ERA of 2.92 and a WHIP of 1.30 in the first three appearances. Though those surface numbers are deceiving, going underneath, in essence, Blalock's xERA is at 4.13 and screaming unsustainability. His struggles at preventing hard contact and striking out batters to any meaningful extent have left him residing in the bottom half of the league in xBA and average exit velocity, while he's in the top half in strikeout rate. Joining Blalock in this category has been Colorado's bullpen as one of the worst all year. Presently, the Rockies rank dead last in ERA, 29th in FIP, and dead last in xFIP, meaning their bullpen staff has shown a decided inability to protect leads or limit damage, which goes right in line when targeting the Over.
On the offensive side of things, the Rockies have shown that they can add some points to high-scoring games. They rank in the top half of the league in hits per game, team batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS, so there may be some dreams of them being able to put runs on the board. It's the potent Yankees' offense, though, that really takes this potential Over to a completely new level. New York then ranks in all of Major League Baseball in the top three for most runs scored per game, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, and home runs, and is better than able to take advantage of the Colorado mound impotence.
The Yankees will counter with Warren, who has been anything but reliable this season. Over those three starts, he has posted an 8.59 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, along with a disturbing Barrel and Hard Hit Rate. With Warren's struggles so far this season, he is likely to be chased early, meaning the Yankees will likely have to rely on that better-than-Colorado but still-not-strong law firm of a bullpen that ranks in the bottom half of the league in both FIP and xFIP. To cap it all off, the weather is going to favor hitters—with the winds blowing out to left-center, potentially putting even more fuel on the fire of scoring.
