2018 College Football National Championship Odds: Washington State Climbing After Week 9

  • 2018 college football national championship odds are seeing movement ahead of the first College Football Playoff rankings release on Tuesday.
  • Washington State and Oklahoma jumped after their wins over the weekend.
  • Texas and Florida both fell considerably after Saturday's losses.

With nine weeks of college football in the books, one-loss teams are becoming increasingly rare, which means the list of teams with legitimate national championship hopes is shrinking.

Only six teams have odds inside of 20-1 to win the College Football Playoff, and only three are listed inside 12-1.

Alabama is the odds-on favorite at -250, giving the Tide a 71.4% implied probability of winning the national championship.

Here are the updated national championship odds from Westgate.

2018 College Football National Championship Odds Risers

Oklahoma: +3000 to +2000 (3.23% to 4.76% implied probability)

Week 9 vs. Kansas State: 51-14

Following their shellacking of Kansas State, Oklahoma is now at +2000 again for the first time since the beginning of the month. And with Texas going down to Oklahoma State on Saturday, the Sooners are by far the most likely Big 12 team to win the title.

Washington State: +30000 to +5000 (0.33% to 1.96% implied probability)

Week 9 @ Stanford: Won 41-38

Washington State is the biggest winner of the week, moving from the 16th to ninth most likely champion. And with Cal's win over Washington, Wazzu is now the last remaining one-loss team in the Pac-12.

2018 College Football National Championship Odds Fallers

Texas: +5000 to +30000 (1.96% to 0.33% implied probability)

Week 9 vs. Oklahoma State: Lost 38-35

The Longhorns swapped places with Washington State on this list, falling all the way to 30-1 after Saturday's loss. With two losses, Texas has little to no chance of making this year's playoff.

Florida: +20000 to +999999 (0.5% to 0.01% implied probability)

Week 9 vs. Georgia: Lost 36-17

Florida wasn't exactly knocking on the playoff door to begin with, but the Gators' small chance at a title basically evaporated this week. They're now a game behind Georgia and Kentucky, both of which have beaten Florida this season.

Washington: +30000 to N/A

Week 9 @ Cal: Lost 12-10

Washington had already picked up its second loss a few weeks ago, so Saturday's defeat had more to do with bowl game implications than anything else, as the Huskies are now off the board at Westgate.

Wisconsin: +30000 to N/A

Week 9 @ Northwestern: Lost 31-17

Also left off of this week's odds is Wisconsin, who picked up a third loss at Northwestern on Saturday. The Badgers are now two games back in the Big Ten West.
