Charlotte Betting Stats & 2019 Season Profile

  • Season Record: 7-5
  • Against-the-Spread Record: 6-6
  • Conference: Conference USA
  • Offense Yards Per Play Rank: 23
  • Defense Yards Per Play Rank: 99
  • S&P+ Special Teams Rank: 90

Analysis: Congrats to Charlotte, which made its first bowl game in program history. And it’s not a bad one — the Bahamas Bowl against Buffalo. The 49ers closed the season with five straight wins against a much lighter part of their schedule, but that’s impressive nonetheless. They have a pretty dynamic offense that ranks No. 22 in explosiveness and an offensive line that ranks top 10 in a handful of metrics. The defense was pretty porous, especially against the run, but can get after the quarterback thanks to defensive end Alex Highsmith. He had 15 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss. Protecting the quarterback is Buffalo’s strong suit — the Bulls’ 2.4% sack rate is best in the nation. — Steve Petrella

Buffalo Betting Stats & 2019 Season Profile

  • Season Record: 7-5
  • Against-the-Spread Record: 7-4-1
  • Conference: MAC
  • Offense Yards Per Play Rank: 91
  • Defense Yards Per Play Rank: 21
  • S&P+ Special Teams Rank: 126

Analysis: Lance Leipold has done a fantastic job keeping his Buffalo program on track following their breakthrough 2018. The Bulls lost quarterback Tyree Jackson and leading receiver Anthony Johnson to the NFL, and their second leading receiver KJ Osborne to transfer. Luckily they still have an elite running back duo in sophomores Jaret Patterson and Kevin Marks that combined for 2,634 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns. This duo is very talented but they’re also helped by one of the best offensive lines in the group of five. On the defensive side Buffalo ranks 20th in yards per play, 35th in passing success rate, and 26th in passing success rate. They also limit explosive plays and have a talented offensive line. Buffalo is a team I’ll be looking to back this bowl season and in 2020. –Kyle Miller
