How Air Force Reached the First Responder Bowl
Air Force put together another successful campaign in 2021, dropping just three games to 10-3 Utah State, 11-2 San Diego State and 8-3 Army.
Air Force did top Navy early in the season, and we know how big rivalries are among the three service academy teams.
From a college football betting perspective, the Black Knights were very steady for their backers, evidenced by a 7-4 against-the-spread (ATS) record.
Interestingly, Air Force seemed to travel well by covering four of its five road games, but struggled at home with a mediocre 3-3 ATS record.
Whenever we think of service academies we think of the triple-option offense and lower-scoring games, and Air Force did its part by hitting the under in seven of its 11 lined games this season.
How Louisville Reached the First Responder Bowl
Winning hasn’t come as easy in the ACC for Scott Satterfield after departing App State off three straight Sun Belt titles, but he did just enough to sneak his Cardinals into a bowl game for the second time in his three-year stint.
The Cardinals were favored just once over their first five games, yet won three across that span to get out in front. They dropped four of five in the middle of the schedule — with three losses by a combined 10 points — but romped Syracuse and Duke by a combined 103-25 to grab a bid.
The offense, led by dual-threat quarterback Malik Cunningam, can march up and down the field in a hurry.
Louisville ranked just outside the top 20 in total yards per game (450.7), while Cunningham paced the team in rushing (968 yards).
