This article contains predictions for an old game.

The Army Black Knights (8-0, 6-0 AAC) travel to Denton, Texas, to take on the North Texas Mean Green (5-3, 2-2) on Saturday, Nov. 9 in American Athletic Conference action. The game can be seen live on ESPN2 with kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.

Army is in sole control of first place in the AAC and needs just one more conference win to secure a spot in the AAC Championship game.

North Texas is likely too far behind to get back in the conference title race, but this is a proud bunch that has competed well against two of the better teams in league play.

Army comes in as a 4.5-point favorite in the contest with an over/under set at 63.5.

Let's dive into my Army vs North Texas predictions and college football picks for Saturday, Nov. 9.

Army Black Knights vs North Texas Mean Green College Football Preview

Army Black Knights Betting Preview: Bouncing Back From an Outlier

Army comes in off a hard-fought 20-3 win at home against Air Force last week. The Black Knights were without starting quarterback Bryson Daily due to an undisclosed illness/injury, and his absence really hindered the potent Army attack.

With backup Dewayne Coleman at the helm, the Knights were limited to just 255 total yards.

The lack of a legitimate passing threat allowed Air Force to focus on the run game, and Army was completely content running fullback dive and playing the field-position battle.

The Army defense was locked in, though, as the Falcons never really threatened to breach the end zone and ended with just 209 total yards.

North Texas Mean Green Betting Preview: Explosive Offense, Bad Defense

North Texas is coming off two straight losses in high-scoring affairs against Memphis and Tulane.

The Mean Green have the offense rolling and are averaging 41.7 points per game on the season.

The issue for North Texas all season has been the defense, which has consistently failed to get stops and keep teams off the scoreboard.

The stop unit has surrendered 97 points and 998 total yards combined over the last two weeks. Now, it has to try to stop a potent Army rushing attack with a unique offense.

How To Make College Football Picks For My Army vs North Texas Prediction

I'm taking the over in this matchup.

The North Texas struggles at all three levels defensively, and the metrics really stand out here. UNT ranks 93rd nationally in Defensive Success Rate and 106th in Rushing Success Rate allowed this season.

The Mean Green have surrendered 178 yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry on the ground this season, and this could be a spot where their head is spinning trying to line up against Army's triple-option attack.

North Texas can't be counted on to create negative plays or stuffs at the line of scrimmage, so Army should remain ahead of the chains and in favorable downs and distances throughout.

The Black Knights lead in the country in Offensive Success Rate and are third nationally in Finishing Drives. I fully expect plenty of Army drives to finish in the end zone.

North Texas should also have success here, as this is far and away the best offense Army will have faced up to this point.

UNT quarterback Chandler Morris has been exquisite this year, completing 64% of his passes with a 26:8 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

The Mean Green offensive line has held up extremely well, as Morris has been sacked only nine times on 349 dropbacks. Army ranks just 79th in Defensive Havoc and hasn't consistently forced pressure on opposing quarterbacks due to the style of defense it plays.

The Knights are just 97th in Defensive EPA Per Pass this season and 117th in Defensive Passing Success Rate. There are opportunities to throw on this secondary, something UAB and ECU did quite successfully.

The last three North Texas football games have seen 1,000 combined yards in each contest and an average of 88.6 combined points. Army's offense has been a juggernaut, and last week’s result is nothing more than the result of a quarterback injury and opponent.

These two teams will score a ton of points on Saturday.

Pick: Over 67 (-110, bet365)
