How Boise State Reached the Arizona Bowl

Boise State is usually the class of the Mountain West, but the Broncos fell off in 2021.

There was enough talent, especially offensively, to nab a bowl berth as usual — Boise State’s played in the postseason every since 2002, save for last year’s shortened season — but it’s just the second time since 1998 with five losses during the regular season.

The Broncos were particularly spotty when favored, suffering three separate upsets.

There was no identity on the ground, as the 123.8 yards per game ranked outside the top-100 nationally.

Boise State went under the total in nine of 12 games, including each of the final six.

How Central Michigan Reached the Arizona Bowl

The Chippewas will look back at the missed opportunity against Northern Illinois with regret as Central Michigan blew a 35-18 second-half lead that ended up costing the team a bid in the conference championship game.

Still, it was a successful season for Central Michigan as it hit the over on 6.5 wins and moves on to a bowl game thanks in part to running back Lew Nicholls III. The back rushed for over 1,700 yards on the year, including over 200 yards in two of his last three games.
