How Boston College Reached the Military Bowl

Boston College lost quarterback Phil Jurokovec and never really regained form.

A 4-0 start out of the gates was matched with a four-game losing skid thereafter, which set the Eagles back before Jurkovec returned late in the season.

The team as a whole went under the total in nine of the 12 games. Boston College’s offense in particular sailed under the team total in nine of the last 11 to close out the year.

The program’s been stuck in the log jam of the ACC, going just 12-11 in the Jeff Hafley era.

However, it apparently likes the direction the team’s heading, dishing out a five-year extension to the head coach.

Boston College is just 7-11 in ACC play the last two years. It’s tied for sixth in the Atlantic in both.

How East Carolina Reached the Military Bowl

East Carolina saw enough from head coach Mike Houston in 2021 to lock him up, giving the former James Madison cog a newly-minted contract extension.

They’re a ways from reaching Cincinnati or UCF territory, but it’s baby steps for a program that hadn’t been bowl eligible since 2014.

The Pirates went on tear from early October into the middle of November, covering six straight – a window that included an overtime loss against ranked Houston, a four-point defeat to Central Florida, and a signature, bowl-clinching win over Memphis as underdogs.

Former highly-touted high-school recruit and quarterback, Holton Ahlers, led the Pirates to a top-25 passing unit.
