The stakes have been raised as the No. 14 BYU Cougars (9-1) take on the No. 21 Arizona State Sun Devils (8-2).

The pressure is on for BYU as it needs to win this week and next to secure a spot in the Big 12 Championship game.

The Sun Devils control their own destiny. After last week's upset over Kansas State, a sweep of their final two games will put them in a great spot to compete for a conference title.

Arizona State is a 3-point favorite on the spread with a 48.5-point over/under.

BYU Cougars Betting Preview: Can Rushing Attack Get Back on Track?

Last week, we saw the Cougars post a season-low 13 points in their loss to Kansas. The Jayhawks contained the rushing attack and prevented big plays through the air.

This resulted in BYU being put in third-down situations, where they have struggled all season, converting just 30% of them. This Saturday, we may see a similar scenario as they line up against the Sun Devils.

Arizona State ranks 43rd in Rush Success Rate allowed and is even with the Cougars in the trenches. This will force BYU into passing situations, where the Sun Devils will also be well prepared.

Big plays have been minimal against the ASU secondary, which ranks 26th in yards per pass allowed. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff hasn't been efficient through the air, ranking 102nd in completion percentage.

If the Sun Devils contain the ground game, we will see another sluggish start from BYU's offense.

Arizona State Sun Devils Betting Preview: Skattebo Leading the Way

The BYU defense looks daunting on paper, but a closer look reveals that the Sun Devils will have opportunities for success. We have to start on the ground as the Sun Devils rank 16th in rush rate this season.

Running back Cam Skattebo has set the tone for this offense all season. He's picking up 5.4 yards per carry and has found scored 11 times. He should get going early against the Cougars as the Sun Devils have an edge in the trenches.

Arizona State outranks BYU 20 to 72 in Line Yards and 15 to 75 in Rush Success Rate. However, it doesn't stop there for the Sun Devils.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt has shown that he can stretch the field efficiently. He ranks 29th in yards per pass and holds a 17-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

The Cougars' strength this season has been their pass defense. However, their ranks of fifth in opponent completion percentage and sixth in yards per pass allowed may be overblown.

BYU is 50th in PFF's coverage grade and doesn't generate much pressure, ranking 123rd in sack rate. If the Cougars are forced to load the box to stop the run, Leavitt will make them pay.

BYU vs Arizona State Pick & Prediction

All signs point to the Sun Devils' success in the early part of this game. They come in with confidence and momentum and get to play in front of a raucous crowd.

That should amplify ASU's defense early, and the offense can control the game by keeping the ball on the ground.

ASU's consistent ground game will open up big opportunities through the air, which should lead to the Sun Devils being ahead come halftime.
